Student Websites

A. 1. Poetry
2. Scholastic: Writing With Writers-Poetry Writing

3. This website is a great tool to use for expanding students' writing of descriptive poetry. Students are given the opportunity to listen to well known authors like Karla Kushkin and Jack Prelutsky. Students will follow her through  the step-by-step process of writing a poetic piece. On the site students are given examples of poems written by Karla Kushkin. Once students go through each step (and the writing process) students are given the opportunity to post their poems online.

This poem was created by a student in a university, but I think students would really like how the poem is put together in an artistic way.

B. 1 Reading for Purpose
2. Smithfield Middle School- Reading Comprehension

3. This website is a great tool for students to utilize in different areas of reading comprehension. Students will need to be taught how to use the websites and where to locate different games and videos. Teachers will be required to sort through the sites they want students to use. There are many different aspects that would be a great tool to use as a support.

  1. Look for sites that students can navigate without your assistance. Because you are in the YAL inquiry group, look at and review some sites where students can read/respond/interact with new YAL.
